Dining Room trends are far more than just a place to eat!

Kitchen casual

The continued popularity of island benches in kitchens and open plan living has seen many people ditch the ‘official’ dining table altogether in favour of integrating the dining table with the kitchen island. The opportunities are endless and include lowering a portion of the island to standard chair height or opening one whole end of the island to ‘float’ as a table top. Timber island legs are also very on trend and essentially create a ‘table island’. These options are great for apartments and units, open plan living and those who love to cook and entertain at the same time.

Traditional goes glam

For homes that have the luxury of both casual and formal dining rooms a twist of glamour can bring the WOW factor to your next dinner party. Try laying a lush thick-pile carpet or rug and pairing a dramatic glass or concrete table with rose gold chair legs and velvet upholstery. Grouped pendant lights, wall art and luxe dinner ware will complete the look.

Alfresco dining

Australians love to dine outside so we can take advantage of daylight saving and the warm weather. Gone are the days of the slatted bench seats and table! Outdoor dining rooms are now a feature in most new and renovated homes. Choose furniture for your outdoor dining room that is purpose made for the outdoors for longevity. You can match the look with adjoining internal rooms or style it up to a theme. Colourful cushions and bunting lights are a fun idea when entertaining also.

Multi-purpose dining rooms

If you’re living in an apartment, unit or small home you needn’t be discouraged by the lack of a dining room. You can still create a dining space within a room by choosing furniture that allows you to collapse the table top or tuck the dining chairs right away under the table when you’re done. Scandinavian furniture manufacturers have some wonderful options that are both practical and stylish. These options can double as a study or console table giving you even more options.
