Pool Perfection

Having a pool is one of the ‘great Aussie lifestyle’ features of a home. It’s fun for the kids, perfect for entertaining and gives you the luxury of being able to relax next to your very own, private water oasis. Did you know, if you don’t maintain your swimming pool properly, you could cut the lifespan in half? So, the goal is… perfect pool, happy home owner. Here are our top tips.

Chemical balance is king

You should be testing your pool water one to two times per week (more in summer and during heavy usage periods). You can’t rely on the same dosing quantities 365 days a year. Sun, swimmer load, sunscreen and rain can and will change the requirements of your pool. Depending on your available time and budget you can choose to test it yourself with a DIY kit or take your sample to your local pool shop. Keeping on top of your chemical balance will ensure your pool looks great, is healthy to swim in and avoids the costs and time required if you let your pool go green.

The right equipment matters

Pool equipment can be a grudge purchase. But just like your TV, fridge or washing machine having the right pool equipment will save you time, improve the look and lifetime of your pool and save you money in energy bills. Pool equipment can be confusing, there are many options and new products are always arriving on the market. It’s a good idea to seek the advice of a trusted professional when you are considering upgrading or replacing your pool equipment. And, don’t forget to do some online research also.

Clean your filter and skimmer box regularly

No one has the time to clear or repair blocked equipment so it’s important to regularly clean and clear your filter and skimmer box. Requirements for this will depend on the type of filter and skimmer box you have (check the manufacturer’s instructions) as well as environmental factors such as how many trees are close to your pool, the weather and how well your pool is generally maintained overall. Check your skimmer box once or twice a week (more often in summer). It’s a simple task that can save you a lot of hassle in the long run.
