Cosy up with the latest home furnishing ‘lust haves’ this winter

Who doesn’t like rolling up in a fluffy throw by the fire, when the temperature dips outside? As we prepare ourselves for the season of cosy jumpers, hearty home-cooked meals, and gathering around the fireplace, bring warmth into your home with these cosy winter décor ideas.

Shine a light on
With winter comes fewer hours of daylight, so it’s important to make sure your home still feels bright and inviting throughout the cooler months. Bring in floor lamps to illuminate dark corners, and place small light fixtures on side tables or the mantel to add atmosphere and warmth.

The hearth of the home
Re-arranging your furniture can give rooms a fresh look for winter. If you have a fireplace, pull pieces in toward the centre of the room and face them near the hearth to create a cosy and intimate gathering spot for winter entertaining. And don’t forget to give your fireplace a quick makeover to ensure it’s ready for all that extra attention.
If a fireplace isn’t your thing, plush fabrics and upholstery add warmth even without a roaring fire. The flickering of candlelight can also create an atmosphere that’s almost as indulgent.

Bump up the comfort level
Let’s face it, despite any intentions to leave the house, many of your winter days will inevitably be spent indoors. With that in mind, it’s important to have plenty of spots to curl up with a cup of tea or hot chocolate. Add some throw rugs and pillows to both add personality and soften and warm a room instantly.

Layer it
Prepare your bedroom for the cold-weather season by incorporating layers. Layering in textured bedding, throws, faux sheepskins, floor rugs, cushions, and heavy curtains will instantly add an element of cosiness. And a warm, inviting bed is just the place to sink into when the weather turns cold.

Rug up
The feeling of bare feet on a cold floor can make anyone hate the winter. Try covering any uncarpeted areas of your home with plush rugs to make things a little more comfortable.

Lock in the warmth
Minimise heat loss and make your rooms feel cosier by adding curtains. Keep them open during the day to let the sunlight shine in but make sure that you close the curtains before sunset. And the thicker the curtains, the warmer you’ll be!

Invite the outside in
Bring a little of the outside in with indoor plants or buy a bunch of flowers every week at the farmers market to make things a little more cheerful on those particularly drab and dreary days.

The temperature outside might be cold and windy, but inside your home, warmth can be everywhere. Make a large mug of hot chocolate or a cup of coffee and slide on a pair of warm socks or slippers then cosy up under a warm blanket, relax and say goodbye to the winter blues.
Happy Hibernation!
