Expensive and exclusive, Kangaroo Point in the Sutherland Shire has always been regarded as an upmarket place to live. The waterfront peninsula is on the southern shores of the Georges River and is 21 km from Sydney’s CBD. Just a short 15-minute drive to the domestic and international airports, it shares the 2224 postcode with Sylvania, along with the amenities and services of the suburb.
Kangaroo Point is recognised as one of the most exclusive areas south of Sydney Harbour, with predominantly waterfront properties on more significant than average blocks. Many of the properties have their own boating facilities such as jetty’s, boatsheds and mooring, while other have an expanse of sandy beach. Most properties have spectacular water views!

For anyone into boating, fishing and sailing, this particular part of “the Shire” is heaven on earth; however, Kareela’s 18-hole golf course is located nearby where you can meet up with friends for a round of golf followed by a casual bistro meal.

Kangaroo Point currently holds the record for the highest sale price achieved in both St George & Sutherland Shire areas.

Originally named Sylvan Headland, the name Kareela was later adopted, an aboriginal word meaning ‘place of trees and water.
Kareela is a beautiful, quiet and family-friendly suburb with a village-like quality and a great sense of community, located just off the Princes Hwy in the Sutherland Shire. Tucked away and bordered by Sylvania, Kirrawee and Oyster Bay, many of the homes have lovely water and/or bush views. Kareela Village Shopping Centre has everything you need for day-to-day shopping, including cafe’s, takeaways and a couple of restaurants, including the famous Jensen’s. Westfield Miranda is only a 7-minute drive if you need more shopping options.

The local primary school is regarded as one of the best in the Sutherland Shire and is in high demand with quite a lot of out-of-area children attending.
Kareela playing fields are also famous for various sporting activities, including soccer, cricket and football.
Most of the homes in Kareela are larger styles, with some great architecture on display. With regular bus service to Jannali and Miranda, and numerous train stations nearby, transport is easy, and it’s a safe place for children. It is approx. a 30–40 minute drive into Sydney CBD and only 10-15 mins to Cronulla beach.
