It’s time for the ghouls to come out to play…
There is a division between the lovers and haters of Halloween. It would probably be accurate to say that even the lovers of it hate the after-effects of all that sugar!
Whether for or against, this yearly ritual is becoming more popular in Australia. It is easy to roll our eyes and say we are becoming “Americanised”, BUT, as a multicultural society, we have embraced many yearly events and customs from other countries, so why not Halloween?

Halloween originated as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. People would dress up for the occasion to ward off ghosts before All Saints Day on 1 November. Followers of the Celtic religion believed that the barrier between our world and the world of ghosts, ghouls and spirits became thin at the end of summer, and ‘All Hallows Eve’ would banish the evil spirits.
Although most Halloween celebrations barely reference these early traditions, there are many positive aspects of Halloween that we can’t ignore.
So here it is … the plus side to trick or treating:

Exploring your neighbourhood
What better way to meet your neighbours and check out more of the area where you live than by getting out and about?
As you wander the streets, keeping a watchful eye on your little ghouls, princesses, and vampires, you will notice how relaxed and social other people are. Halloween is an excellent excuse for a catch-up with old friends and an opportunity to maybe even make some new ones.
Added bonus – the more you walk, the less those sugar calories will impact!

Get those creative juices flowing.
Kids love being creative, love the idea of Halloween and LOVE spending time decorating their house and creating costumes for their characters for the big night. And what a great distraction from homework or staring at a device!
It’s an awesome opportunity to be creative and have fun spending time together as a family.

It’s actually fun
You’re never too old to join in, and it’s FUN to be a part of it – whether you are in character, at home waiting for trick or treaters, or out on the street with your little ones.
Sometimes life can get a little too serious and tied to routine, so Halloween is a great excuse to get out of the house, have fun with your family, meet the neighbours, and explore your ‘hood.

Here’s where to go, BOO!
